Senior Capstone Project - Abstract works that study the action of painting as meditation, inspiration & play.
I Solemly Swear to Never Waste Paint, Acrylic on glass panel 9x12
When I was done painting the other pieces, I’d slather the extra paint onto this panel. Some of my favorite abstract pieces of mine have been made this way, since it eliminates the planning stage and instead relies on creative intuition.
Changing What I Can & Accepting What I Cannot, Acrylic and coffee grounds on canvas 3x5
This painting had many lives and layers, changing from blue, to green, to red, and back to blue again. If you look closely, you can see the layers stacked in the crevasses I couldn’t reach, thanks to the texture of the coffee grounds.
Hamster Wheel, Arduino Motion Sensor
Who’s afraid of abstract art?, Acrylic on wood block 10x10
Self Help pt.2 / Discipline, Acrylic on wood 10x10
Experiments 1-11, Mixed media 8x8
Experiments made to discover new processes using found materials, such as: coffee grounds, glitter, glue, hairspray, felt, cardboard, and more.
Working for the brush, Acrylic on glass panel 10x13
A game of telephone, Acrylic on glass panel 10x13
Interactive piece that began with a Heraclitus quote that embodies my thesis. The idea was that it would slowly evolve as each new person rewrote it, similar to the game telephone. Many people hesitated to touch it, got the quote completely wrong, or just wrote their own thing. I checked on this piece intermittently:
Good job!
The result I was hoping it would yield: right idea, wrong quote
This one was the most fun to read.
The exhibition was right around christmas time...
